To be quite honest, 9 times out of 10 when I am contacted by someone believing they have an infection, they don’t. Most of the time their piercing is simply just irritated.
Classic signs of infections are:
- Red streaks extending from the area
- Increased pain, swelling, redness, heat, or tenderness around the piercing site.
- Pus coming from the wound.
If you are experiencing any of the following, please contact your piercer. Your piercer (NOT YOUR FRIENDS) will lead you in the right direction of aftercare or direct you to a physician if that is what needs to happen.
